Blane Whittaker is one of the first spies in M.I. High project and series. He is also one of the original Saint Hopes students. He appeared in both Series 1 and Series 2.

Biography[]

Blane is a below average student, possibly year 9, at Saint Hopes Secondary School. It can be assumed that his family might be involved in the military, as he reveals his brother Kyle Whittaker is a serving officer. He has been best friends with Stewart Critchley since they were 6 years old but since becoming a spy he has not been able to spend as much time with him.

Blane's performance at school seems to lack when compared to his team mates. An M.I.9 simulated version of himself takes a school assessment in "The Others", receiving a D grade, a result which Blane celebrates. However, he does seem to do well in PE, challenging even gold medal athletes with his stamina and presumably playing for the school's football team, an advantage of training as an M.I.9 agent.

He has a crush on Daisy, and is the only one to know about her personal life outside of school and M.I.9. During "Spy Plane", he shows an interest in Irena, igniting subtle jealousy from Daisy. Ironically in "Super Blane" he gets jealous when Daisy shows an interest in Chad Turner.

M.I.9[]

Blane was one of the first M.I. High agents, along with Rose Gupta and Daisy Millar.

He is a proficient unarmed combatant, showing exceptional skill in Karate, nicknaming himself and being nicknamed by Lenny as a 'Martial-Arts Expert'. On multiple occasions he is implied to fend off multiple adult attackers with limited help from his team mates, such as in "Fit Up". His weaknesses appear to lie in operations that involve disguises, straying away from his original cover name in "Spy Plane" and almost jeopardizing the whole operation. Daisy Millar often makes jokes about his mental capacity being lower than average, but his institutive ideas often speed up missions, even if they are prematurely dismissed such as his suggestion of lay-lines in The "Power Thief".

He has a lot of imagination when it comes to invent excuses when he's being called by Lenny for missions, or for distracting Stewart Critchley, often noting his frequent absences.

After the end of series 2, both Daisy and Blane leave the series to be in Project Alpha. Frank reveals to Rose that this project involves training more young spies, in a similar vein to the M.I High Project.

Personality[]

Combative, extremely brave and skeptical, Blane is an outsider as the only boy on the M.I High team. He is charismatic and heroic at his high points, but also hot-tempered and sarcastic, especially during some discourse with Daisy Millar. However, he is often shown to remain as a loyal friend and agent to his school and team-mates, his optimism often boosting morale.

His skepticism often comes out when interacting with his best friend Stewart, who often gets wrapped up in both outlandish and surprisingly accurate conspiracy theories, occasionally involving M.I.9. In the episode "Spy Plane", Blane makes fun of him for believing in ghosts, but gets a little too caught up in his act by almost exposing his team's underground HQ, showing some of Blane's dedication to what he personally sees as true. Despite this, he does remain a loyal friend to Stuart, taking the chance to fight him in "Nano Nits" as a 'chance to spend more time with him'.

One of his flaws comes to be his envy, putting himself in danger by using hardly tested technology in "Super Blane" in order to exceed the skills of Chad Turner, a possible rival love interest for Daisy. This makes him an unknowing test subject for the SKUL agent who notices Blane's enhanced physical and mental strengths, almost short circuiting his body by overusing the gadget.

Trivia[]

  • In the episode, "Nerd Alert", it is revealed that Blane has a brother in the army.
  • He holds the UK long jump record.
